A new international trailer for the upcoming crime comedy Suburbicon has been released, featuring new footage. The film, directed by George Clooney and starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac, is set to be part of TIFF and Venice festivals this year.
‘Suburbicon’ is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns… the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence.
Suburbicon opens in U.S on October 27, and in UK theaters on November 24.
Entertainment Weekly released this week their Fall Movie Preview issue and, of course, The Last Jedi is featured on cover + 7 pages inside. The EW website also has published a large article on Carrie Fisher and her final role as general Leia Organa.
They also released some new promotional images, including a beautiful one with Oscar Isaac as Poe. The article published talks a lot about the bond between the Resistance’s best fighter pilot and Carrie Fisher’s General Leia Organa.
“Poe is in some ways a surrogate son for Leia,” Isaac tells EW. “But also I think she sees in him the potential for a truly great leader of the Resistance and beyond.”
“Poe’s arc is one of evolving from a heroic soldier to a seasoned leader, to see beyond the single-mindedness of winning the battle to the larger picture of the future of the galaxy,” Isaac says. “I think Leia knows she won’t be around forever and she, with tough love, wants to push Poe to be more than the badass pilot, to temper his heroic impulses with wisdom and clarity.”
The Suburbicon trailer has the Coen Brothers written all over it — and that’s because Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the initial script. Matt Damon plays a father living in idyllic suburbia with his family in the summer of 1959, but his run-in with the mob leads to his wife’s murder and transforms this quintessential image of the American Dream into a war with the town’s seedy underbelly.
George Clooney came on to helm Suburbicon at the tail end of 2015, following up on the actor’s directing turn on 2014’s The Monuments Men. The script has since been worked over by Clooney and his writing partner Grant Heslov. Now, as the film heads to screen at the Venice and TIFF festivals later this year, the first footage has landed online through this trailer.
Suburbicon opens in theaters on Oct. 27.
Oscar Isaac is having quite the meltdown in the short Lightningface.
The 20-minute short film stars the actor as Basil, a man who gets struck by lightning and wakes to find his face scarred. He quickly spirals out of control, sequestering himself in his apartment, calling out of work and cutting ties with his loved ones as he begins to believe that he’s part of an otherworldly transformation.
Lightningface is Isaac’s second collaboration with director Brian Petsos, as the two previously worked together on the short film Ticky Tacky.
